VOLUNTEER FAQ
How can I become a volunteer?
TGNS is always looking for new volunteers to help people in need in the community. You can put yourself forward as a volunteer by completing our application form or by contacting us on 07539 050517.
Will I have to have an interview?
A member of the team at TGNS will meet with you for an informal chat about the role. This helps us to find out a bit more about you and what you would like to get out of volunteering with us.
Do I have to have any skills or qualifications?
No, you do not have to have any formal qualifications or skills to carry out the work of TGNS. All we ask is that you are open-minded, non-judgemental and willing to listen and learn. If you do have any qualifications that you feel may be relevant to your role, please do tell us about them.
Will I get paid?
Volunteers do not receive any payment for their services, however, if you volunteer as a driver your mileage will be reimbursed. Other costs such as paying for parking when undertaking hospital lifts etc. will be paid for by the client.
Will I need additional insurance?
As a volunteer you will be covered by our public liability insurance when undertaking any TGNS jobs. If you are volunteering as a driver you will need to inform your insurer and obtain written confirmation that they have acknowledged this. There should be no additional premium for this.
When will I have to volunteer?
The best bit about volunteering for TGNS is that it fits around your life. You tell us when you are available to help and we will offer you jobs to suit. You are under no obligation to say yes to anything we offer you.
Will I receive any training?
It is important to us that you feel fully prepared to take on the volunteering role. You will receive a full induction explaining how the services works, what to do in an emergency and how to complete the necessary paperwork. Training opportunities may become available as the service grows.
Do I need a DBS check?
Yes, to ensure the safety of our clients we undertake Disclosure & Barring Service checks on all of our volunteers. This is completed at no cost to you.
Will I be expected to provide personal care?
No. Food preparation, other than heating ready meals, and personal care are not services TGNS offers. These are services provided by specialist agencies and you are not expected to undertake them.
